Can you believe it, I missed the Golden Globes this year! I didn’t even remember to set my DVR. I’ve had to do my fair share of catching up on which hairstyles ruled the red carpet. According to one of my favorite sites, NaturallyCurly.com, loose waves won the popularity contest. Celebrities including Sandra Bullock, Drew Barrymore and Julia Roberts all walked the red carpet sporting gorgeous, loose ringlets.

“Actress Rose Bryne definitely wins the best curl award,” said Michelle Breyer, co-founder of NaturallyCurly.com. “Her delicate waves were classic with a modern twist.” We hear that Harry Josh at John Frieda styled her locks!

Other favorites from the night include Zoe Saldana, Evangeline Lilly, Drew Barrymore, Samantha Harris and Renee Zellweger. Want to achieve similar curls yourself? NaturallyCurly.com suggests trying the Curltini™ Curly Cocktail, which includes:

    • Curlisto Bio-Gel Mousse – Works as a conditioning styler and gives your hair added moisture to keep it healthy all year long.
    • Curlisto Control I Gel – Features shine agents that will make your hair sparkle all night long, while keeping your tresses intact.
    • Curl Junkie Curl Enhancing Spray – Activates sexy, sultry curls and gives your hair that extra oomph.
    • Curl Friends Seduce Pomade – Helps keep your hair silky smooth and eliminates fly- aways and frizz on those hot, humid days.
    • 8.75’ Long Wide-Toothed Shower Comb
    • Curltini Recipe Card
    • 1 Spunky Swizzle Stick

hairWant to know how to recreate Quinn’s soft waves? Aussie celebrity hair stylist, Sarah Potempa, gave us the official Glee steps.

This is a great take on a traditional braid, but with a twist.

Step 1: Spritz Aussie’s Leave-In Conditioner spray on the fringe that you will twist.

Step 2: Take two pieces and cross one over the other (and, surprisingly, do NOT twist). With each piece, add a little hair from the root of the loose hair.

Step 3: Follow half way down and secure with 2 bobby pins or a clear elastic underneath the top layer of the hair.

Step 4: Curl the hair with a 1” curling iron and spray with Aussie’s Sprunch Spray.

GTL0921Here’s another hair How-To from last night’s 61st Emmy Awards.  Re-create Amy Poehler’s chic low chignon for under $15 using TRESemmé products! Celeb hairstylist Mara Rosznak gives us the steps. BTW, did anyone see Amy on the Today Show last week? I almost peed my pants watching her interview.

Step 1: Apply TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse to damp hair, create a deep side part, and blow dry with a round brush.

Step 2: Curl hair with a 1 1/4 inch barrel curling iron, and spray with TRESemmé Frizz Shield Finishing Spray.
Step 3: Pull hair back, making it tighter on one side exposing the ear, into a mid-height ponytail and wrap to form a bun. Criss cross bobby pins to secure.
Step 4: Finish with TRESemmé TRES Two Hair spray to hold the look.

ks2ksKristen Stewart rocked the stage at the VMA’s with her edgy, yet classic short ‘do styled by Celebrity Stylist for Pantene, Hallie Bowman. Want to recreate this look? Here are the  steps.

    1. Hallie started by shampooing and conditioning Kristen’s hair with a moisturizing formula to create a good base for styling

    2. She began by cutting bangs to create roundness around the cheekbones, a look that is complimentary of her heart shape face

    3. Hallie applied the Pantene Pro-V Volume Root Lifter Gel from root to tip to begin building volume, as well as the Pantene Pro-V Texture Spray Wax to make hair more malleable for styling

    4. Then, she blow dried Kristen’s hair while brushing it away from the scalp, periodically flipping her hair over to ensure lots of volume at the crown

    5. Hallie then pinned sections of her hair back with bobby pins to secure it away from the face, leaving some pieces around the face to give the illusion of a bob with bangs – a nod to the bowl cut, but with a modern feel

    6. To polish off the look, Hallie used the Pantene Pro-V Smooth Serum to give Kristen’s hair long lasting shine for the night

CSiriano_Aveda_SS10_6Low, sleek ponytails adorned with a textured bouquet of waves were spotted at Christain Siriano’s Spring/Summer 2010 Fashion Week show. Very different, we must admit! This look was created by Antoinette Beenders, Vice President Global Creative Director for Aveda.

As you can see, hair is sleek and groomed on each side of the head and through the ponytail, with a slightly rough, matte finish on top and elegant, textured waves pinned above the pony.

“Christian and I worked together to create a hair look that reflects the inspiration behind his collection: waves and the ocean, with shimmering silks, silvers, and blues. I call this look the “wave” because of the back-combed wave that floats atop the ponytail. Since Christian is a young designer, the hair look is elegant yet very modern.”

Here’s Aveda’s steps to recreate this look:

Step 1: Create a deep side part. Draw a horseshoe-shaped section of hair along the top of the head, from each brow-line. Isolate this section of hair and pin in place with a single-pronged hair clip.

Step 2: Pull the bottom half of hair into a ponytail and secure with a bungee elastic. Divide ponytail into sections with fingers and spray with Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray for workable hold.

CSiriano_Aveda_SS10_7Step 3: Use a flat iron to straighten the ponytail section by section, creating a smooth, sleek finish.

Step 4: Unclip the top section of hair and comb it back and over the ponytail. Sprinkle Aveda Pure Abundance™ Hair Potion and massage into hair to create volume and matte, rough texture.

Step 5: Working with the same top section, divide hair into smaller pieces and spray with Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray. Wrap each piece of hair around a ceramic Curl Rod, creating spirals, until the entire top section of hair has been curled.

Step 6: Brush through spirals, loosening curls into soft waves. Loosely backcomb waves to create fullness, volume and texture, and shorten the length of hair.

Step 7: Pin the sides and ends of wavy hair against the head, close to the base of the ponytail. Hair is sculpted into a voluminous, undulating chignon adorning the ponytail.

Step 8: Work Aveda Light Elements™ Texturizing Creme into palms. Smooth hair along the sides of the head and above the ears to create a sleekness and shine.

Step 9: Finish the look with Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray for shine and hold.

JPO_9.10.09_Aveda_1Aveda just sent us their trend report from the John Patrick Organic show that took place yesterday. The hair look is a modern, playful take on Bohemian-chic.  Hair is smooth and shiny on top with soft, free-flowing curls below the cheekbone and volume at the front—pulled back into a barrette, adding a girly touch.

Lead Hairstylist Odile Gilbert for Aveda says this is a great look for day or evening that can easily be re-created following the steps below:

Step 1: Prep hair with Aveda Phomollient™ Styling Foam to add body, volume, and shine.

Step 2: Brush hair through and create a deep side part.

Step 3: Divide hair into three sections: bottom, sides/top and middle, and secure in place with hair clips.  Spray each section generously with Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray (one of my fav products ever!) for shine and hold.

Step 4: Starting with the nape of the neck, curl small sections of hair using a 1 inch barrel curling iron.  Once curled, roll each piece into a loop using your index finger, and hold in place with a single-pronged hair clip.  Continue curling hair, working around the sides toward the top of the head, leaving a one inch piece of hair untouched.  Spray each curl with Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray for added hold. (This is how I styled my hair for my sister’s wedding last weekend. Great method but time consuming if you have a lot of hair)

Step 5: Curl the one inch piece of hair forward and secure with a single-pronged hair clip to allow the hair to cool.

Step 6: With the exception of the front curl, remove all hair clips and brush curls (brush with your fingers unless you want medusa-head) through to create soft, full waves.

JPO_9.10.09_Aveda_3Step 7: Rub Aveda Light Elements™ Shaping Wax between palms and smooth over the top of hair to reduce flyaways and add shine.  Hair is now smooth from crown to cheekbones becoming full, loose curls.

Step 8: Remove clip from top curl and twist slightly to create volume and lift in front.  Secure hair in place with two small hair pins, and then pull back with a larger barrette that matches hair color. Spray Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray directly on the lifted section of hair to add volume and hold.

Step 9: Finish the look with a final misting of Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray.

    August 26th, 2009AmandaCelebs, Hair Salons

melody2We just got word that singer Melody Thornton of the Pussycat Dolls stopped by the LA based salon, Parlour on 3rd to meet with stylist, Robear Landeros. The high-end salon just revealed their “Old Hollywood” style makeover. If you want to recreate Melody’s ‘do, here are the steps to try out at home. But let me tell you, this does not sound like a quick and easy process. You may want to consult a pro if it’s for a big night out :)

    1. After shampooing with nou nou shampoo & conditioner by Davines, Landeros blow dried her hair with a paddle brush to get hair it straight

    2. Then he used 1 1/4″ FHI curling iron to curl her hair.

    3. Landeros then alternated the curl pattern (1 row up 1 row under) and pinned each curl with a metal 1/2″ inch clip to set the curl in place, thus giving it amazing volume!

    4. Lastly, Landeros removed all the clips and used a drop of the Glorifying shimmering drops by Davines and rubbed in the palm of his hands and ran them through her hair – fingering out her curls not combing.

We found some pics on Glamour.com of Diane Kruger at the Inglorious Basterds Premiere Afterparty and we agree with Glamour’s editors, we love this look!

Diane’s hairstyle can easily be re-created in a few steps:

    1. Part hair to one side and tuck behind ears.

    2. Use 4-5 bobby pins (make sure they match your hair color) to secure side pieces. Place them randomly for easy, no-effort required effect.

    3. Pull top layer of hair (should only be a couple strands) back using a tiny jaw clip or barrette to create half-up half-down look. Check out some beautiful hair pieces at France Luxe.

    4. Curl ends using a curling iron if needed.

I think Scarlett Johansson is one of the most beautiful celebs, even without makeup. I admire everything about her look, from her curves to her hair. Everyone freaked out when she dyed her hair, saying it was a huge mistake. Well look at her now! Miss thang is on the cover of  French Elle Magazine this month and all we can say is SMOKIN’ HOT! Scarlett’s natural looking messy up-do with side bangs is a great look for everyday at the office or drinks after work.

jawWant to easily re-create this look without a professional hair stylist? Check out this Flap Jack Jaw hair clip.

It’s a great way to hold your hair back quickly with a grip together comb clip. Easy to use, just open the jaw, gather your hair sideways, and release for a great hold. And it’s covered in Silk Shantung for luxury appeal.

Joss Stone performed last night with Smokey Robinson on American Idol, and of course in typical PGH fashion, we have to talk about her hair!

She wore her hair down in waves and pulled back the front pieces in braids. It’s a very easy look to recreate – especially for PGH.

    * If you hair is naturally wavy, once dry, smooth out the ends with a frizz-calming serum, like Ken Paves Shine Serum.

    * Braid four small sections in the front and secure them in back with a bobbypin or small hair clip.

    * Then liberally spray Aveda Air Control on pieces that tend to misbeahve.  About 6-7 sprays and you should be good.
