My boyfriend and I hosted a BBQ yesterday and the rain was no fun. Not only was I forced to block the food from getting soaked…but also my hair! Celebs at the Golden Globes last night must have felt my pain. Keeping your hair lookin’ good in the rain is a challenge…especially if you have PGH. Lucky for us, celeb hairstylist Philip Pelusi sent us some tips on weathering the storm during a special event. I will use these next time so that I don’t have to choose which to save…food or hair.

    • Check the weather report a few days in advance so you can plan to wear your hair up or down. If rain is in the forecast, plan ahead to wear your hair either all up or half up and half down.
    • Pulling hair into an updo or half upsweep is the best strategy to stay looking good in rainy conditions because hair is already curled, pinned and sprayed in place. If it gets rained on a bit, hair can simply air dry in place, and it is also easier to keep an updo dry under an umbrella.
    • If you wear your hair down and are caught by surprise, make sure to bring a small emergency kit in your purse to a special event with a few hair pins, a ponytail holder and a small purse size hair spray. If hair gets wet, go for a quick style change. Pull hair back into the ponytail and wrap hair around the ponytail holder and secure into place with the hair pins. Mist with spray.

Photo courtesy of people.com Despite Emma Roberts and other celebs going lighter in the winter, there are some that still stick to the old ways.

Nicole Richie has decided to go dark. It has been years since we saw the momma with anything but blonde hair and she looks great.

According to Nicole, she hasn’t been able to play with her hair color over the past couple of years due to her being pregnant and nursing her two beautiful children. She was sick of being a blonde and jokes that she feels smarter already.

What do you think? Maybe brunettes have all the fun..

Photo courtesy of The Hollywood GossipVanessa Hudgens is featured in August’s issue of InStyle Makeover. In the mag, the young star talks beauty, fashion style, and much much more. But that isn’t what caught our attention.

Vanessa, who is usually found wearing her hair au natural, let InStyle give her a hair makeover. She played up her features with a sleek and straight do and also with the help of bold makeup. I think she looks best when her hair is wavy, but it is nice to see her switch it up a bit. What do you think?

Check out what Vanessa has to say about hair, makeup, and more by picking up August’s issue of InStyle Makeover!

P.S. I am loving her dress!!

    July 21st, 2009AmandaHair Reality Shows

This just in from the Canadian Press.

    Photo: TLC

    Photo: TLC

Ted Gibson, hairstylist for celebrities and catwalks, is giving “What Not to Wear” its own makeover.

TLC has added Gibson as one of its advisers to join fashion stylists Stacy London and Clinton Kelly, and makeup artist Carmindy. He replaces Nick Arrojo.

The switch was made in an effort to freshen the seven-year-old reality series, according to Nancy Daniels, the network’s senior vice president of production and development.

On the show, participants trade in their old wardrobe in exchange for a shopping spree, new hairdo and makeup consultation. They also give up control of their look – and that can be the hard part, especially when it comes to their tresses, says Gibson.

“You can take off the clothes and makeup, but the hair is going to stay with them after the show is done,” he says.

Gibson has shot five episodes so far (which start airing Friday), and he says he’s enjoying it – even when the women don’t quite appreciate their new look as much as he’d like. “My role is to make the girls feel pretty, to change their hair from being drab to being beautiful and sexy.”

The actual work isn’t all that different from what he does at his namesake salon in Manhattan, for stars like Anne Hathaway and Renee Zellweger or fashion houses such as Chanel and Prada. But with the TLC participants on such an emotional roller-coaster, he finds himself feeling their ups and downs.

Still, Gibson says, at least everyone has left his chair with an understanding of the difference one’s hairstyle makes to overall appearance. “I can see the transformation and potential beauty in each of these women.”

This season has had the most vocal and volatile participants, agree the fashion experts. “It’s been a baptism by fire,” Kelly says.

London gave Gibson a pep talk after his first taping, she recalls. “I don’t think he was expecting the reaction he got at the first makeover,” she said. “I sent him an email explaining the psychology of it all, that people become attached to their identity and you’re not criticizing them but the image they are projecting.”

Even London admits she was relieved when Gibson, whom she calls “the hair extraordinaire,” gave her own ‘do a thumbs-up. “He likes my hair. I think I want to grow it all one length, but he tells me I should keep the layers. … It would have crushed me if he said, ‘Girl, what are you thinking?”‘

Looks like another celebrity has jumped on the bandwagon with the latest hair trend. Just like Cassie, Carmen Electra, and LaLa, Rihanna is now sporting the half-shaved cut that we’ve mentioned in the past. Rihanna has the personality to pull anything off, but honestly, I’m not feeling any urge to go shave off half of my hair. I don’t get it? I’ll learn to deal because it looks like this trend is here to stay.

In the article, Lauren states that blonde hair is the only look that works for her day-to-day life. Otherwise, according to her, she just looks like a “Plain Jane”. What do you think?
