More than 800 spas in 30 markets across the country participate, guaranteeing a spa near just about everyone.

Miami girls, I’ve already found an amazing deal on hair color. The Seven Seas Aveda Spa and Salon is offering full highlights for $50. Does it get better than that…especially at an Aveda salon? Spa Week is April 12-18 so book your appointment now before it’s too late.

Spring Hair Trends from Hallie Bowman, Pantene Stylist

Posted on March 25th, 2010 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

flowers_spring_tulips_2899_lIt has been one cold winter (even in Miami believe it or not!)  but with warm weather just around the corner, it’s time to get your humidity hair plan into action. If you’ve been sticking to your hair iron like glue for the past 4 months (yes, I am guilty of this), it’s time to switch it up! Spring is here, whether your hair likes it or not.

“Last season, we saw a lot of conventional looks – super sleek, tamed texture, perfect twists and classic chignons,” said Hallie Bowman, Pantene Stylist. “When I think spring, I think unexpected playfulness, so I’m excited that the hair trends I’m seeing are in sync with the essence of the season. Classic styles will go to the extreme or, as I like to think, depressed winter hair is finally ready to be exposed again, yet looks will still maintain a genuine romantic feel that reflects the positive mood of warmer weather.”

Here are some more Spring Hair Trends from Hallie Bowman st Pantene…

· Expect to see classic looks, deconstructed. Everything from deeper, more oddly angled side parts to random messy strands off to the sides will be added to enhance those been-there-done-that styles.

· My term for a favorite trend I’m seeing – “Urban Romantic.” Hair is tightly pulled back in a pony with lots of wisps in front to frame the face. Instead of a completely sleeked-back method, adding texture can show off your personality. Crimp for attitude, wave for elegance or spiral for romance – style how you feel!

· Lots of frizz will be in, frizzy curls included. Don’t bother repressing wild texture: embrace it, live it, love it. Free your frizz with intention and purpose, but don’t forget to polish your ends, try the Pantene Pro-V Smooth Serum, as you don’t want to lose total control.

· Bows will be out in full force for spring, think huge 80’s-style Madonna bows. To counter an angelic sentiment bows usually portray, it’s time to be clever with your bow style. Disheveled, punky hair surrounding the bow gives a carefree, yet put-together look all at once.

· Be prepared for the relapse of the thick, heavy eyelash touching bangs…it’s coming back.

· The most playful trend I’m seeing – especially with the younger crowd – touches of pastel colors in hair. Take a section of hair underneath your nape, bleach it a pastel color and, voila, it’s a hidden treasure! Ashy colors like lavender, blue and purple tones will be popular.

Best Friend Hair Poll

Posted on March 3rd, 2010 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

5878-P9187When it comes to your looks, there are not many people out there who will tell you the honest truth. That’s why you have best friends…amongst many other reasons. Bottom line: If your hair is looking crappy, they’ll tell you.

Since it’s actually been cold in Miami, I’ve been wearing my hair straight a lot. It’s a nice change to not have to wash it everyday. I can go several days even! See, PGH isn’t so bad after all.

But finding the right products is key to maintaining straight, frizz-free locks. I polled two girlfriends who I have known for over 10 years and both battle daily with PGH.  Here’s what they recommended:

The Chi product line. This brand is probably most well-known for their amazing flat irons. But they also make some great products for straightening your hair. Personally, I’ve tried the Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray and I really like to use it on my ends to make sure they don’t fry off from 400+ degrees of heat.

My other girlfriend swears by all things Redken…well, before she started getting the Keratin treatments to tame her mane. Products to try: The Iron Silk Straightening Spray, the Smooth Down Detangling Spray, as well as the Smooth Down Conditioner. I used to use Redken many years ago but haven’t given the brand another chance. Think it might be time to.

Fekkai’s Silky Straight Ironless Collection

Posted on February 18th, 2010 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

The name alone caught my eye – Silky Straight Ironless. This new line from Fekkai contains an anti-frizz straightening complex to smooth each strand. Each product works synergistically to create and hold a chic, straight style.

For curlies going straight for the winter (like me), this seems like a cool product line to try out. I know I want to! The collection includes a shampoo, conditioner, smooth finish serum and a straightening balm that is supposed to give you a salon blow-out look sans stylist.

Hmmm, sounds too good to be true. Well, I got an e-mail today saying that to celebrate the launch, book a silky straight blowout in any Fekkai salon and receive a complimentary bottle of Ironless Straightening Balm (3.4 oz.). For a list of salons click here.

Angela Kinsey’s 5 Easy Tips to Get Red-Carpet Ready in a Pinch

Posted on February 3rd, 2010 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

akAngela Kinsey from one of the funniest sbows on TV, The Office, knows how to work the red carpet. She also knows how to get ready in a pinch when time is a ticking! We got our hands on her top beauty tips:

1. Pick a light-colored nail polish for your manicure—not only does it dry faster, but if it chips before the big night, it’s less noticeable. Try and do your nails the day before so wet nails won’t be an issue on event night. (I always abide by this. Nothing worse than bright red chipped nail polish.)

2. Skip the false lashes and try a great lengthening mascara like CoverGirl LashBlast Length.

3. Choose a long lasting lip color—only one application and it lasts the whole night, all you need is a glossy touch up! (I’ve been wanting to try a lip tint…heard it stays on all day)

4. Make sure your roots are kept at bay – for busy gals like myself, try coloring your hair at-home with Nice ‘n Easy the week of the event to brighten your look and ensure shiny color.

5. EAT! On event day, choose something light but filling so you’ll still feel like your fabulous self when you get into your evening attire.

Product Alert: It’s A 10

Posted on January 30th, 2010 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

itsa10miracle_leavein_4oz_250hAs you probably know from previous posts, I’ve been wearing my PGH straight lately. All the heat styling tools take a toll and I’ve been on the hunt for a product to keep my hair healthy and strong.  Enter It’s a 10 Miracle Leave in Conditioner. This product was recommended to me by five different stylists at five different salons, so I figured it had to be somewhat good, right?

On the bottle, it claims it does the following instantly:
1. Repairs dry, damage hair
2. Adds shine
3. Detangles
4. Controls frizz
5. Seals & protects hair color
6. Prevents split ends
7. Stops hair breakage
8. Creates silkiness
9. Enhances natural body
10. Flat iron spray & thermal protector

Sounds like a pretty good all-in-1 solution! I’ve been using It’s a 10 for about 2 weeks and so far I really like it. My hair is still looking healthy, shiny and I think it’s even getting easier to style.  I reccommend this to anyone who has dry, damaged or chemically treated hair.

Wavy Hair Wins at Golden Globes According to NaturallyCurly.com

Can you believe it, I missed the Golden Globes this year! I didn’t even remember to set my DVR. I’ve had to do my fair share of catching up on which hairstyles ruled the red carpet. According to one of my favorite sites, NaturallyCurly.com, loose waves won the popularity contest. Celebrities including Sandra Bullock, Drew Barrymore and Julia Roberts all walked the red carpet sporting gorgeous, loose ringlets.

“Actress Rose Bryne definitely wins the best curl award,” said Michelle Breyer, co-founder of NaturallyCurly.com. “Her delicate waves were classic with a modern twist.” We hear that Harry Josh at John Frieda styled her locks!

Other favorites from the night include Zoe Saldana, Evangeline Lilly, Drew Barrymore, Samantha Harris and Renee Zellweger. Want to achieve similar curls yourself? NaturallyCurly.com suggests trying the Curltini™ Curly Cocktail, which includes:

• Curlisto Bio-Gel Mousse – Works as a conditioning styler and gives your hair added moisture to keep it healthy all year long.
• Curlisto Control I Gel – Features shine agents that will make your hair sparkle all night long, while keeping your tresses intact.
• Curl Junkie Curl Enhancing Spray – Activates sexy, sultry curls and gives your hair that extra oomph.
• Curl Friends Seduce Pomade – Helps keep your hair silky smooth and eliminates fly- aways and frizz on those hot, humid days.
• 8.75’ Long Wide-Toothed Shower Comb
• Curltini Recipe Card
• 1 Spunky Swizzle Stick
