Going…gray??

Posted on July 15th, 2008 by Amanda  |  No Comments »

If you’re anything like me, your mom (and genetics) have passed on some not so fun traits. One of mine–gray hair. At 24. My mom started going gray early, so therefore I am too. Having dark hair does nothing to help mask my flaws! I have been dying my hair every few months for the past few years to keep it looking young and fresh. However, I have come to realize that this is a damaging, not to mention pricey, habit to keep up. So…I set out looking for another solution.

I’d like to introduce you to Rashell Masc-a-Gray Hair Mascara. For those in between months when the grays are growing in, but a visit to the salon is not possible, Masc-a-Gray is a perfect solution. It is just like mascara for your hair. For $5.99, you can cover up until your next shampoo. And the best part? It comes in 12 colors, ranging from Copper Chestnut to Wheat Blonde. So go ahead, grab your color, and mask those grays away!

And, just a tip..for those days when you run out the door without covering up, just be like me and tell the world you have gray highlights! ;)

Give Your Big Hair a Chance

Posted on July 9th, 2008 by Amanda  |  No Comments »

I admit, sometimes I do envy the girls who get of the shower and do nothing to their hair and poof – it dries perfectly straight. But, then I remember that my big hair is a part of me. It adds character. It gives me style and let me tell you, people remember big hair.

Ladies, it’s important to have Big Hair Confidence. I found this article by Ken Paves, hair stylist to stars like Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, Céline Dion, Jennifer Lopez, Kim Cattrall, Christina Applegate, and Heather Locklear, on Oprah’s website. Read below and try to take it all in.

Hair Confidence

Your hair is only an accessory to your beauty that comes from within. If you feel pretty, your hair will reflect your positive self-esteem. Regardless of the type, texture, length or color of your hair, celebrate the fact that your hair is wonderfully unique. Embrace the natural type and texture of your tresses and work with it and not against it.

Don’t be a slave to the latest hair trends if they don’t make you feel good about who you are. A good hairstyle lends itself to many variations taking influences from modern hair trends. Current trends can be applied to any style or length that not only suits your face shape and hair type but also your personality.

You Gotta Love It

Flexibility should be a major requirement for selecting the ideal hairstyle that honors your special beauty. It is important to enjoy your hairstyle and feel comfortable playing with your own hair. If have fun with your hair and truly enjoy it, you are wearing your hair and it’s not wearing you. Wear your hair the way you want to wear it.

Looking Positive

Hair is like a picture frame that crops a photo (your face). Focus on where you see beauty in your face. For example bangs will bring attention to the eyes and soft layers below the chin can distract from a week jaw line. If you don’t already possess self-confidence or positive belief patterns, focus on creating them. It’s all about focusing on the positive and believing who you are on the inside is how you look on the outside.

My Lover Head Scarves

Posted on July 9th, 2008 by Amanda  |  2 Comments »

Hello fellow big hairs!! Well, Amanda’s first post was dedicated to our BFF Pantene. It is only fitting that my first post be about my lover for life, head scarves. Not only do head scarves make a fashion statment (as seen on runways to the left), but they are a total frizz fix!! I’ve been rocking the headwear for years now and it has always saved me during a bad hair day.

I have purchased scarves in a variety of places, ranging from a cherry blossom festival in DC to Banana Republic. Target always has a great selection! My favorite part about head scarves is that you can wear them in so many ways. From headband style, to Bret Michaels-like (circa Poison days), to wrapped around your head like a bandana…any way you tie it, its a perfect hair accessory.

So, leave a comment..let me know your favorite place to buy a scarf and the best way to wear it! xoxo

New Product Alert

Posted on July 8th, 2008 by Amanda  |  1 Comment »

Last night I went to CVS with my girlfriends and saw a new product called Gorgeous Curls Foam Styler by Nexxus that looked like fun, so me and my big hair friend Susan both purchased a bottle. I think we paid about $13 bucks each. I am still deciding if this is a worthy product. Half way through the day, my hair did get frizzier than usual and my curls were looser. Definitely a more natural and softer look that gel.

Turns out that Nexxus also introduced another new product for curly hair called Alluring Curls Styling Elixir. I think the trick may be to use both these products at the same time. Not sure though.
So, what is so special about these new Nexxus products? According to their website the formula contains “humidity barrier technology, sweet almond protein and lavender oil.”

Want to learn more? Check out this video. And if you decide to try these products out, leave a comment and let us know what you think.

My Boss’s Evil Chair

Posted on June 27th, 2008 by Amanda  |  2 Comments »

My boss is really cool (he used to have cornrows back in his gangsta days). But, he has the most evil chair in his office. IT EATS MY HAIR. Strand by strand….I feel the pintch, look back and another piece is gone.
I tried to add tape to it’s “mouth” but the evil chair still finds a way to attack.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions to end the chair’s vicious ways once and for all!

Big hair hates humidity, but now we have a way to fight back! I found a great site called Naturally Curly. On the homepage, you can type in your zip code and and it will tell you the humidity outside. According to Self Magazine, “Now you can dress and tress accordingly.”

To Mousse or Not to Mousse?

Posted on June 21st, 2008 by Amanda  |  1 Comment »

I was recently told by a fab hairstylist that I should stop using mousse because all the alcohol dries out your hair. Give up my most precious hair product? I’m going to need a second opinion.

If you know, please leave a comment and let us all know if we should continue to mousse or not. Your advice is much appreciated.
