We <3 David Cook

Posted on August 24th, 2008 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

Here’s the David Cook video we promised, even though we don’t talk about hair! I know this is one my roommates will appreciate. We have all the episodes on Tivo and they watch his performances over and over again (My boyfriend thinks they are crazy for doing this).

I was a DC fan from the start and now that I’ve met him I can tell you that he is so friendly and I like him even more. I’m sure you’re wondering how we got backstage at the American Idol tour, right? Well, let’s just say with have the hook up with The Rock Star Stories – a really cool TV show all about music. Check out their site for more artist interviews. Hope you like the clip!
P.S. My hair looks fab! Don’t you think so? Must have spent extra time on it knowing I was going to hang out with rock stars!

Jason Castro Talks Hair

Posted on August 24th, 2008 by Amanda  |  1 Comment »

The American Idol tour stopped in South Florida last week and we went backstage to interview the top 9 finalists and of course the winner – David Cook. All of the idols were so nice and we had a blast talking to them. Most people remember Jason Castro for his dreads, so we had to ask about them!

Enjoy the clip :)
We’ll post the David Cook video next so make sure to check back!

Hat Hair…On a Budget

Posted on August 22nd, 2008 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

It’s almost Fall and you know what that means…cute hats for bad hair days! If you live in a tropical weather city like me, there are only a couple weeks out of the year when it’s cold enough to sport a hat. But for everyone else, you probably want to be able to mix and match your hats with your outfits and still have money left over to buy that cute necklace you’ve been eyeing.

If you don’t know already, I’m a big fan of online shopping and that’s why I think you should check out Forever 21′s selection of Fall Hats. My fav is the Neon Trim Fedora, see picture to the left. You could go home with this baby for $10.80 (plus tax and shipping of course). Not such a bad deal, eh?

Hard Water vs Soft Water

Posted on August 19th, 2008 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

Beauty experts at Oprah.com say that it doesn’t really matter if your shower water is hard or soft. What’s the difference anyway? The Water Filtration Blog did a post not too long ago talking about this. Basically, soft water makes your skin feel smoother and hair feel softer. And it causes less buildup on the inside of pipes. An article from USA Today explains that hard water contains more calcium and magnesium which makes it easier to rinse all the soap out of your hair. It also tastes better than soft water and it’s good for your teeth and bones. All this to say, both have it’s advantages. Leave a post and let us know if you can tell the difference between hard and soft water when you shower at a hotel, friend’s house, etc. I know that I can tell sometimes when I shower at my parent’s house.

Big Hair For the Office

Posted on August 15th, 2008 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

I get into work today and my boss looks at me and says, “What happened to you last night? Your hair is all big and flipped over” (see picture of me to the left). The truth is I was in bed by 11 pm watching the olympics. (Go Team U-S-A!) We all know big hair is hard to tame but for meetings and interviews, it’s important to know how. BellaSugar did a great post today on professional hair and makeup. Here’s what they had to say:

Hair: Keep it Simple
- Wash and dry your hair the night before the interview. By getting that out of the way, you’ll save time the day of the big event.

- If your hair is long, consider pulling it back in a ponytail. This way, you won’t be tempted to absentmindedly fiddle with it.

- Even if you don’t use hair spray every day, a light dusting of it will keep flyaways at bay.

- Don’t wear a hat as part of your ensemble. If you need a hat to keep yourself warm, remove it before entering the building, and peek into a mirror to remove any traces of hat head. (We don’t really have this problem in Miami)
- Skip the flashy hair accessories.
- Keep your hair out of your face at all costs. Long bangs falling into your eyes are sexy for a date, but they won’t project a professional image. If you need to get them out of your face, using a simple barrette or bobby pin is a fine solution.

Clip on, Stay on

Posted on August 14th, 2008 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

So, I’ve written about Goody hair products before. They recently introduced a new collection of hair jewelry called Goody Luxe. The Luxe Collection is comprised of a variety of high-quality barrettes, fashion combs, headbands and ponytailers in four styles: Vine, Deco, Antique and Starburst.
Now, hair jewelry is nothing new, but here is what makes Goody’s Luxe Collection special: their patented StayPut Hold techonolgy, which offers lasting hair for active lifestyles. In the past, you may have struggled with your hair accessory slipping or falling out of your hair. StayPut grips your hair but is also gentle enough not to damage it, so it’s a win-win situation.
Check out the line at Goody, and let us know which style is your fave!

Don’t Cry, Baby!

To all the mamas and the papas–if you have kids, chances are you passed on your big, curly hair to the little ones! While it probably makes your baby that much cuter, it may be hard for you to care for their hair.

Ouidad, the self-proclaimed curl experts, have a line of products specifically made for kid’s curls. It is (cutely) named KRLY Kids. They have all kinds of products, including shampoos and conditioners that are gentle enough not to cause tears. You can check out the products here. Have you tried it?

So-long hair!

Posted on August 13th, 2008 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

Thinking of cutting off some extra inches?? Before you do, think about giving your extra locks to somebody who might really need it.

I’m sure you have heard of Locks of Love, the public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.

I highly encourage you to visit the website at http://www.locksoflove.org/ and look through the photo gallery to see the happy faces of people who have been given a boost through this program.

So, next time you go cut your hair, don’t let your locks be wasted in a trash can…change someone’s life. If you have donated your hair, we’d love to hear about it!
