Crave Big Hair??

Posted on September 5th, 2008 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

I just had a thought.

What if you weren’t lucky enough to be born with big, crazy hair, and you want it? Well, I think everyone should experiment with their hair and try out new looks. So, if you have straight hair and you crave volume and texture, turn to a trusty Curling Iron to help you get the look you want.

About.com has some links to the best Curling Irons out there. Try them out and let us know which one was your fave!

P.S. Try NOT to look like the picture above ;)

I Gotta Try This Stuff

Posted on September 5th, 2008 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

Has anyone seen the ads for Professional Sebastian’s Whipped Creme that feature Cory Kennedy? Talk about big, fabulous hair! I think this is one of their new products that will soon be hitting store shelves, that is if it’s not there already. They have a how-to style video on their site and from what I can tell, this is not a quick style-and-go kind of product. But, I still want to try it! I’m completely sold by theirs ads. If you’ve tested this product out, leave us a comment and tell us what you think.

Dry Shampoo – huh?

Posted on September 3rd, 2008 by Amanda  |  1 Comment »

The Sun-Sentinel asked three women to test out three different dry shampoos. The article appears in today’s paper. I’m sure you’re probably wondering what is dry shampoo? Well, check out this post from The Beauty Brains. It has some great info on other products too like Shampowder…sounds weird, huh? Also check out Wiki’s steps for how to use dry shampoo.

My Trip to Shampology

Posted on August 29th, 2008 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Danny Dillon and Alicia Francis of Shampology – a hip salon located in Miami’s Design District. Alicia is a curly-hair expert from Dallas and knows a lot more than a thing or two about styling big hair! Besides working at Shampology, Alicia is also a product educator and a fashion show stylist. Here are some of her top tips:

1. Start with a good canvas. If you have curly hair, you need a haircut for curly hair.

2. Styling products won’t work like they’re supposed to unless you have healthy hair. So make sure your shampoo and conditioner have plenty of moisturizing ingredients.

3. Curly hair is naturally dryer and frizzier than straight hair. So, deep condition once a week and once your hair feels healthy again, cut back to once every other week.

4. If you use hairspray, you may want to consider Unite’s TrickyLite – a half wax, half hairspray finishing spray. (I tried this product out in the salon and loved the way it made my hair feel. And it’s great for women and men.) Spray TrickyLite in wet hair before you diffuse.

5. Next time you visit the salon, ask your stylist to show you the right products for your hair and the correct way to use them. No product is one-size-fits-all, as I’m sure most of us know by now!

For more info on Shampology, check out their site or you can call 305-576-1530.

Unfair Hair

Posted on August 28th, 2008 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

I have a bone to pick with men.

Just for Men just came out with this new hair dye “Touch of Gray“. Its the first men’s treatment that allows them to color their hair while still keeping some gray. So, while us women try everything we can to cover up our grays and hide the fact that we are aging, men get a product to let them embrace their salt and pepper hair!! For them, it’s an alluring look.

Maybe women will catch on and start to show off their more natural look…but then again, maybe I’m just jealous?

Product Alert: Paul Mitchell Round Trip

Posted on August 28th, 2008 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

I tried out a new product this morning. After I washed my hair, I styled it with Paul Mitchell’s Express Style Round Trip liquid curl definer. I scrunched it into my wet hair and let it air dry, and so far so good!! It’s defined, but super soft, and frizz free. But, since it is freshly washed hair, I’ll give it another day before I decide just how much I love it. Thoughts?
Paul Mitchell’s Express Style line is designed to give you quick style with less drying time. Check out the products here.

Product Alert: Aveda’s Air Control Hair Spray

Posted on August 27th, 2008 by Amanda  |  2 Comments »

My daily hair routine isn’t complete without a couple sprays of this stuff! I am a big fan of Aveda’s Air Control Hair Spray for a lot of reasons, but perhps the most important one is that it holds my curls in place all day long. In fact, Friday’s after work I used to come home and rewash and style my hair before going out. Now, I just flip my head over and spray Air Control on my tips. Saves so much time!

Air Control’s unique, water-free formula sprays on dry and creates a light, workable hold. Some of the ingredients include Jojoba and Red Clover - that may be why it smells so clean and fresh. It’s been available in stores and salons since 2004, but I was just introduced to it this summer. If you want to try this product out, order online at Aveda.com.

Mom, what were you thinking contest?

Posted on August 25th, 2008 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

Now, here’s a contest that I love! And probably one I should enter.

Disneyfamily.com is holding a “Mom, what were you thinking” contest. To enter, you should send in a photo of a hairstyle, or an outfit, that you can only “thank” mom for..although, you’d probably like to erase it from memory forever!!

Even if you don’t enter, it’s hilarious to look through the pics. Leave us a comment if you have any “Seriously, Mom???” moments you’d like to share! :)
