Aussie to the Rescue

Posted on September 15th, 2008 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

I woke up late this morning and didn’t have time for my normal styling routine. Sitting pretty to my left was a bottle of Aussie Opposites Attract Styling Mousse that I’ve been meaning to try out. I rubbed a good amount in the palms of my hands and spread it on my frizzy ends and on my hairline. Sure enough, my curls started to regain their shape! It seriously took me 30 seconds and I was out the door, frizz-free.

I’m not the only one who had good luck with Aussie. My sister Brittany (who also has big hair) tried this product out last weekend when she came to visit me in Miami. We weren’t sure how her hair was going to look, but once it dryed her hair looked great! I must say, we were both pretty impressed. Best of all, you can pick up a bottle at your local drugstore for $3.99. Can’t beat that!

Oldie But A Goodie

Posted on September 14th, 2008 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

I asked my mom the other day to send me a couple old pictures of me with REALLY big hair. This one is definitely the best! I was 15 years old here and wearing way too much lipstick. I clearly had NO idea how to handle by thick big fro. Is it straight, is it curly? Who knows! All I can tell you is that it’s big and it’s always been big.

So, I know that while you’re reading this, you’re probably thinking about the old pictures you have tucked away in a dark, dark hiding place! It’s fun to bring ‘em out every now and then for a good laugh.
As embarrassing as this pic is, I have a couple more that I will post next week if you leave a comment and tell us about your hair faux pax.

The Women and Dove Team Up

Posted on September 12th, 2008 by Amanda  |  1 Comment »

The Women comes out today and if you’ve seen the trailer, you’re probably just as excited as me to see this flick! Starring Meg Ryan, Eva Mendez, Debra Messing, Annette Bening and Jada Pinkett Smith (what a cast!), the movie is about the meaning of true friendship (aww). I was so happy to find out that Dove is sponsoring the film. I truly believe in Dove’s campaign for real beauty…and I really like some of their hair products too! Their Non-Aersol Extra Hold Hair Spray is a great buy. This stuff never makes my hair feel too stiff and it smells very clean.

So, if you don’t have plans Saturday night, I say grab your girlfriends, get all dolled up, and make it a dinner and a movie night. Check out movie times here.

We Love AnnaLynne’s Hair

Has anyone caught an episode of the new 90210 on the CW? Well, my roommates and I watched it last night and I couldn’t help but notice one of the character’s fab hair. Blonde, big and curly – AnnaLynne Mccord has such gorgeous hair! She plays Naomi Clark on show and I actually remember her from a couple episodes of Nip/Tuck last season. The lead hairstylist for the show is Linda Arnold and we think she does a great job. Keep up the terrific work!

Repunzel, Repunzel…Let Down Your Hair!

Anne Hathaway is on the cover of W Magazine this month and when I saw the pictures, my first thought was “oh, how Repunzel of her!” Her hair was styled by Luigi Murenu who is known internationally for his big hair creations. You’ve got to see some of his amazing work from the June issue of Pop Magazine. Mr. Murenu says, “I feel like I’m becoming the pioneer of the new, big hair.” I couldn’t agree more!

Salon Vaso For Curly Heads

Posted on September 10th, 2008 by Amanda  |  7 Comments »

Today’s Miami Herald ran a brief about Salon Vaso, a new South Beach salon that specializes in highlights and naturally curly hair. Daily Candy also did a piece not too long ago, declaring Salon Vaso a TKO (toal knockout) for curly hair. I checked out some of the pictures on their site and the salon, which is located at 15th and Alton, looks chic and quaint. Haircuts start at $70 for women, which is pretty standard on South Beach. Want more info? Check out their site here.

Have You Heard?

Mischa Barton, the former OC star, has partnered with designer Stacey Lapidus to put out her own signature line of hair accessories. The line will range from $40-$200. Not so cheap for a headband! Check out this article from People Magazine. Let’s just hope these end up at Loehmann’s for a fraction of the price.

Do-able Runway Hair

It’s Fashion Week in NYC right now and the who’s who of the designer world is in the city showing off their new extraordinary collections. I love seeing all the beautiful clothes but what I really pay attention to is the runway hair. This year we can actually replicate some of the popular ‘dos at home. Marie Claire has a great slideshow up right now – seems like long full waves is the trend.

Salon Color minus the Mega Bucks

Posted on September 5th, 2008 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

Here is a product that I am excited about. Frederic Fekkai, the leader in luxury hair care, has introduced Fekkai Salon Color, the newest addition the the long line of Fekkai products.

The line aims to give you salon quality hair color with an at home treatment (for A LOT less than you’d pay at a salon!). Available in 20 shades, the bowl and brush application method will ensure complete coverage and natural looking results.

Now, I’ve always been apprehensive about coloring my hair at home, but this is a product that I think would be worth trying. And, if I like it, I’ll be saving hundreds of dollars a year on hair color. That is definitely something to smile about!

I’ll be sure to provide reviews once I try it. If you try it, let us know what you think. By the way, it should be available now, at your local Bloomingdale’s :) .
