Posted on October 28th, 2008 by Premium Grade Hair  |  Comments Off

Are you planning a trip to Miami to enjoy our beautiful winter weather? It is seriously gorgeous outside right now! If you’re around on November 2nd, you may want to hit up the Breast Cancer Cutathon.

This is how it works. Top Miami hairdressers are charging a $20 donation for a cut. The day’s proceeds will go to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. And later that night, Paul Mitchell is hosting a celebratory bash at Flavour Nightclub.

Is that hair around your neck?

Posted on October 28th, 2008 by Premium Grade Hair  |  Comments Off

Seems like hair jewelry may be catching on as one of the next big trends. Check out this eyelash necklace and these earrings made out of hair extensions. We first started seeing these kind of pieces on the runway and now boutiques all over are starting to sell them.

What do you think of these? We think they are pretty cool!

I’m off!

Posted on October 18th, 2008 by Premium Grade Hair  |  1 Comment »

For the next week I will be vacationing in Tulum, Mexico! My boyfriend and I are staying at this very affordable, ecological hotel called Zamas. Ever been there? Our beachfront cabana does not have electricity and you know what the means….my hair is going to be HUGE!! Guess my mega diffuser won’t be making the trip. We’ll be taking a lot of pictures so I need to plan out my “Tame the Mane” strategy ASAP. Here’s my hair packing list so far.  Let me know if I am missing anything:

1. A colorful hair scarf, kind of like this one from Urban Outfitters
2. A deep conditioner to repair my strands after a day in the sun. Eufora has a great Urgent Care Replenishing Treatment.
3. A wide-tooth comb to help with get out tangles. Check out these from Olivia Garden
4. A cute floppy hat for bad hair days.
5. A fun flower hair clip for our nights out salsa dancing!
Anything else??

Product Alert: Citre Shine’s Split-End Mender

Posted on October 17th, 2008 by Premium Grade Hair  |  Comments Off

When we first heard about Citre Shine’s Split-End Mender we got really excited! There’s not many affordable products out there like this and it has been a long time since we had heard from Citre Shine. The last time I used one of their products was in high school.

Interesting factoid – Citre Shine is owned by Schwarzkopf – the same people that make the very popular products of Pureology.

The Split-End Mender is a leave-in treatment that replensihes your hair with the vitamins and nutrients that it needs. It is infused with natural citrus extracts that really leave your hair looking shiny and healthy.

I have tried this product now four different times and I really like it! One time I spread the Split-End Mender through my soaking wet hair, went to sleep and when I woke up it was actually manageable!

Stop by any Walgreens, Target or CVS and pick up a bottle on your way home today. For only $3.99, I can assure you that you won’t be sorry.

Product Alert – Ken Paves Shine Serum

Posted on October 15th, 2008 by Premium Grade Hair  |  1 Comment »

We’ve been busy trying out some new products at PGH, like Ken Paves Healthy Hair Shine Serum. We think this is a product made for big hair! It smells delicious but not too overpowering and it really makes your hair feel like silk. Be careful to use sparingly on your roots and really concentrate on smoothing out your ends. Too much product may make you look like you skipped a few too many washings.

This Just In: Marshmallow For Your Hair

Posted on October 12th, 2008 by Premium Grade Hair  |  Comments Off

This just in from Style.com - MARSHMALLOW/(mahrsh-mel-oh)/n./ 1. A plant native to Europe and naturalized in the marshes of eastern North America; /n./ 2. Marshmallow contains vitamins A and C and is a naturally conditioning herb that helps nourish and detangle curly hair.

Don’t believe us? May want to ask Dr. Hauschka. They have formulated a conditioner with Jojoba and Marsh Mallow. Sounds like it smells yummy!

The marsh mallow extracts are designed to soften and detangle and the macadamia nut and jojoba oils nourish and moisturize. And to top it all off the apple cider vinegar restores shine and prevents build-up.

What a recipe!

Window Shopping at Nordstom

Posted on October 12th, 2008 by Premium Grade Hair  |  Comments Off

My roommate Liz and I took a trip to Nordstrom today. As she wandered off in the shoe department, I did some window shopping in accessories. I tried on a couple of beautiful headbands by Tasha. I really liked how the actual band is so small, it really blends into my big hair and makes the gorgeous  jewels stick out.  This simple piece could really dress up a whole outfit.

They’re Back…

Posted on October 10th, 2008 by Premium Grade Hair  |  Comments Off

A couple of weeks ago we blogged about one of our favorite web sites for hair accessories – FranceLuxe. We just got word from them that Banana Clips are making a come back. Do you remember how popular they were in the 80′s? Banana clips usually don’t hold all my hair, but they do work for the half-up half-down look. They’re great for piecey up-dos too!

Check out FranceLuxe’s Banana Clip selection and let us if you’re down to go back in time.

Got a Clogged Drain?

Posted on October 9th, 2008 by Premium Grade Hair  |  Comments Off

About every three months or so, I use a wire hanger to dig my hair out of my shower drain. It’s really gross, even with rubber gloves and a face mask on! But that’s the reality of having PGH. Drano just doesn’t cut it for us.

Turns out we have another option!  We were recently contacted by the inventor of FlexiSnake – a hook-and-loop pad that you slide into your drain opening, twist, pull and like magic out comes a big wad of old, soapy hair. It’s disposable, which is great because who really wants to re-use something that’s been to the darkside of your shower drain?
I bet you’re waiting for me to tell you this fabulous device costs a lot of money, right? Wrong! A set of two costs just $7.95. Sweet deal if you ask me.
Can I please get a woo-woo over here!!
