New York Times published a whole article on Blake Lively’s  gorgeous hair…that must say something! According to the article, a Google search of “Blake Lively Hair” produces 713,000 results, many of them “how to’s.” This doesn’t really come as a surprise. I mean, I have never seen a bad picture of Blake. Her hair always looks just styled enough – natural and shiny. Some people, like Blake, are born with pretty close to perfect, easy-to-manage hair. A.K.A. the complete opposite of PGH. Her stylist, Jennifer Johnson, says she lets Blake’s curls dry naturally in a simple chignon, color touch-up every 6 months and no extensions. So…is she really the next “Rachel?” I’m not going to disagree. Read the whole story here.

Argan Rescue Serum

Argan Rescue Serum

New product alert!

Robert Ramos, stylist to stars such as Eva Mendes and Jessica Alba, has just launched his newest product. Argan Rescue Serum with Omega 6 is a deep penetrating oil that promises to bring mega shine to lifeless hair.

Argan Oil comes from the argan tree of Morocco (the new hot spot for hair products). Not only does this serum condition and control frizz, but it also has a UV filter that helps protect your color from fading. More bang for your buck is especially important these days!

Argan Rescue Serum can be used on both wet and dry hair. You only need a little bit for all your tresses, so the $26 bottle can go a long way. Get it now at your favorite salon, or visit Robert Ramos’ website

Hurry up and get your shine on!

Trim Your Own Bangs

Posted on November 4th, 2009 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

twyla_20We just found out that Walmart has a beauty blog with everyday tricks, tips and solutions. We just read an article on trimming your own bangs…a must-know for any ladies with fringe. Here are some tips posted by Twyla, one of their beauty experts.

1) Get a good pair of salon-quality scissors.
2) Cut your hair when dry.
3) Cut hair in tiny sections – angle the scissors at 45-degrees and use the tip of the scissors to snip just a few strands at a time.
4) Start longer – you can also go shorter.
5) Only go as far as the ends of your eyebrows.
6) Be patient! Don’t rush it!

How-to: Expose Your Bobby Pins

Posted on November 4th, 2009 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

-1Don’t ya just hate struggling to hide your bobby pins? Well now you don’t have to! Bobby pins have been spotted on the runways as a hot fashion accessory. Up there with heabands in fact.

Jeni Hoover, owner and stylist at Pearl Hair & Make-up Studio, gave us a great how-to on how you can recreate this look. I haven’t tried this yet but I plan to try it out this weekend for a wedding. Enjoy!!

1. Make a side part in the your hair, we will be working with the stronger side.

2. Using your curling iron, make horizontal barrel curls below the part, spraying a setting spray on each section, combing through, wrapping all hair around iron, and then sliding it off the rod and pinning against your scalp with a pincurl clip. Hair should be in a similar shape as when it was on the curling iron.

3. Do this down to your ear, there should be about 4-5 curls pinned parallel to your part.

4. Spray all curls with hairspray.

5. Once curls have cooled, take down and brush thoroughly, roots to ends. This pulls out the curl a bit, creating a wave, and also joining the curls together into one piece.

6. Use some polishing creme, or a light pomade, to smooth this section and create one large waved section.

7. Position this wave with a bit of slack and bring it and the rest of your hair back into a pony tail or loose bun.

8. While keeping the natural shape in the waved section, slide bobby pins in from the front of the wave, about 1/2 -1 inch apart. Pin the whole wave starting a few inches from your part. This will hold the wave in place as well.

Miami Men: Get A Free Haircut

Posted on November 4th, 2009 by Amanda  |  Comments Off

6db5f287d066424d97099bb2710d6feaSaw this run yesterday on Urban Daddy and thought we could help spread the word. Men,  it’s hard to pass up a free haircut so act fast.

When it comes to Russian vodka, czars rule, literally. Russian Standard is the premium vodka brand most Russians actually drink and it’s distilled using a formula created for the czars in the 1800s. We recommend a little potion called the Moscow Mule, click here for the recipe.

You need a haircut.

Or you will. Soon.

And we’ve got just the place, assuming you don’t mind a bad pun or two…

Introducing Upper Kutz, your new neighborhood barbershop in Midtown, now open and ready to get you cleaned up for free (more on that later).

Located on a stretch of shops just south of the Design District, UK is the kind of wood-paneled styling den that eschews metro pampering frills like manicures, shoulder massages and rock-star theatrics for old-school basics—the art of the cut, a good shave, some sports on TV.

Prices are low enough to make it part of your regular grooming rotation: $18 for a cut, $30 for a hot shave. And each of the comfy leather styling chairs comes with its own flat-screen, usually tuned to sports but available for whatever you’re in the mood to watch (even Grey’s Anatomy won’t raise any eyebrows here).

And now until the end of the month, the place is offering a complimentary cut to first-time clients who mention UD. This is definitely a deal to run to, although don’t run inside the barbershop.

There are scissors in there.

How does Dita Von Teese do it? She always, 100% of the time, manages to look flawless and gorgeous. Last night was no exception.

The fashionistas and celebs flocked to Cipriani on Wall Street in NYC last night for Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars.

Dita looked absolutely amazing in a vintage gown from Vintageous.com. She could have stopped there, but she topped the look with a unique headpiece.  The astronomical headpiece was created by Stephen Jones and is referred to as the “Snowflake Pearls”.

We love this lady!
