Curly Hair History from Allure Mag

I bought the August issue of Allure Magazine today to read at the beach and they have a whole page devoted to curly hair history. It’s really quite interesting, dating back to the 1600′s. Here are some milestones:
  • 1660: After the civil war, judges started wearing long, curly wigs in court.
  • 1872: Marcel Grateu created the first curling iron.
  • 1906: Took 6 hours to set one of the first perms.
  • 1983: Hairstylist Ouidad opened NYC’s first salon specializing in curly hair.
  • 1996: 10 new frizz and curl control products hit store shelves.
  • 2007: 70 similar products being sold in stores.
  • 2008: 1,000 products at stores that claim to eliminate frizz.
