Amanda’s PGH History
I was born on March 29 in Hollywood, FL with big, thick, dark brown wavy hair. Take one look at my parents and you’ll see why I have so much hair; I was bound to come out with an afro or as I like to call it, a Jew-fro. Growing up in South Florida with big hair wasn’t easy. I was always trying new products to find ways to control my frizz. Like most of my curly-friends, I went through a period where I spent nearly two hours every other days straightening my locks. This completely damaged my hair and in the long run, made it even bigger! I dyed my hair a couple times too. In high-school, I wanted purple streaks like Christina Aguilera – very bad idea. The purple turned to white in a couple days and I was forced to chop off several inches. And believe it or not, I had bangs for most of my childhood. I have the pics to prove it and they are scary.
My younger sister Brittany has big hair too and people always think we’re twins. I have taught her my big hair ways. A couple years ago we were in the car and my mom started saying that she couldn’t fathom how we were out of mousse already. It was Britt who explained her to that we are not normal! That unlike our friends who don’t go through a bottle of product a week, we have Premium Grade Hair, now coined PGH. And the rest is history.
Susan’s PGH History
I didn’t always have big, dark, wavy hair. Believe it or not, I was born with really straight, shiny, dark blonde hair. I know..even I can’t believe it when I read it. I remember when I was in kindergarten, my hair started falling out and the new hair that grew in was dark, kinky, and thick as hell!! I had no idea how to handle it and neither did my mom. The result – what looked like a thick helmet on my head for many years. All throughout elementary and middle school, I tried to work against my hair instead of with it, leaving me with an unstyled, messy look. Once I got to high school, I decided it was time to stop being envious of girls with beautiful hair and start trying to figure out what to do with mine! After many bottles of gels, styling creams, flat irons, blow dryers, mousses, and serums, I finally feel like I’m in control of my waves.
Sure, we all have our bad hair days, but for the most part, I know what works for me. And a few years ago, I met someone else who was in the same boat – Amanda. With her gorgeous, luscious curls, I knew we’d have a lot to talk about right off the bat. Turns out, what works for her is pretty much what works for me as well. Amanda explained the concept of us having Premium Grade Hair to me and, well, our love affair was born. And it’s only the beginning.
